The Information and Support Centre offers guidance and support to patients,
relatives and carers affected by cancer, providing a friendly drop-in service within the
hospital. Volunteers will offer information and assist in locating the most appropriate
information and contacts.
1. Display a helpful and friendly approach to patients, visitors, staff and
2. Welcome visitors to the centre and put them at ease
3. Offer assistance regarding the information and help required
4. Listen to concerns and put people in touch with the help that they need
5. Access leaflets and computer based information
6. Contact professional services as appropriate eg Citizens Advice Bureau,
Clinical Nurse Specialists
7. Keep leaflet displays tidy and well stocked
8. Maintain appropriate records either manual or electronic
9. Accompany information stands sited in other parts of the hospital
10. Liaise with the Acute Oncology Nurse to visit appropriate in-patients
11. When no visitor or patient duties to attend to, assist with serving refreshments
and running errands to other areas of the hospital
