Trustees meet formally for 6 meetings a year for a maximum of 2 hours each, either in person at our Taunton office in the town centre or by video link. Beyond that, trustees are asked to take a mentoring and development role if possible, to contribute to TTC’s work and get practical involvement. The time involved with this would be at the trustee’s discretion and convenience.
Taunton Team Chaplaincy is looking for one or two trustees to join its board. The role of the board is to provide strategic direction and keep an eye on performance and assurance to ensure that the charity continues to thrive. A skills audit of the existing board has shown that someone with a business background would be particularly useful for the board and because its volunteer chaplains work within these environments.
Taunton Team Chaplaincy (TTC) is a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee and provides volunteer chaplains in workplace and community settings in Taunton. 33 chaplains provide pastoral care and a listening ear for people with problems and mental health issues.
Taunton Team Chaplaincy (TTC’s) provides volunteer chaplains in workplace and community settings in Taunton. 33 chaplains provide pastoral care and a listening ear for staff and members of the public people with everyday problems and mental health issues. Current beneficiaries are staff in 81 shops, 3 large offices; residents and staff in 6 care homes; rail travellers and vulnerable people at the railway station and the marginalised (homeless and young adults). TTC have an ambition to provide chaplains at the courts in Taunton. TTC is a Christian organisation but volunteers will help those of any faith or none at all and be compassionate and caring. 2020 marks the 10th anniversary of starting our work.
A trustee would support the caring ethos and aims of the charity and ideally would need to have business experience . A trustee would be able to offer skills to take on a portfolio to contribute to development or mentor others. Skills in one of finance, business, administration, management or marketing would be useful backgrounds.
The person doing this would gain great satisfaction from helping to direct a charity which has a Christian ethos with the wellbeing of our fellow men and women at its heart. The existing board of 5 trustees is a harmonious and forward thinking group. TTC has built up considerable goodwill amongst businesses, civic organisations, churches and the local voluntary sector. Our Lead Chaplain plays a key role in this. The existing chair would like to hand over the chair to someone else after 6-7 years in that role, but any new trustee joining the board should not feel that that is an expectation.
